Christmas With Walt Disney
The new documentary “Christmas With Walt Disney” gets a good review from Variety:
The slender length and initially limited exposure of “Christmas With Walt Disney” belie the rather wonderful archival materials encased in this charming compilation of Yuletide-related materials from throughout the founder’s lifespan as studio chief.
You can only see it at the Walt Disney Family Museum through January 4th, but they have released this rare clip of Walt Disney skiing.
Ummm, can we get an east coast extension of the museum? I know a few empty storefronts in the Pleasure Island area of Downtown Disney that would be perfect.

Man detained after joking about bomb at the Magic Kingdom
File this one under jokes not to make while getting your bag inspected at a Disney themepark. Local Fox 35 news is reporting (no story to link to online, alas) that a man was detained by Orange County sheriffs after telling Disney security at the Magic Kingdom main gate bag check that he had a bomb in his bag. He quickly stated that he was joking, but as you can imagine, security wasn’t too happy and took the threat seriously.
As a guest who was in the Magic Kingdom this morning, let me say thank you to security for taking their jobs seriously. Sure, the whole bag inspection thing is just security theater and there are dozens of ways to get something past the gates if you really wanted to. But when someone does make a threat, as a guest I want to know that safety really is important.

Herbert Dickens Ryman: An Artist’s Journey to Walt’s and Other Worlds
Presented by Marty Sklar, Disney Legend and former Executive Vice President and Imagineering Ambassador
Join Marty on a journey through the life and legacy of Herb Ryman and the establishment of Ryman Arts, founded in his honor by six friends, including Walt’s daughter Sharon Disney Lund and Marty and Leah Sklar. Herbert D. Ryman (1910-1989) created the first overall illustration of Disneyland, drawing as Walt Disney described his dream for a new kind of family entertainment, and continued to work on every Disney theme park until he died in 1989. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to listen to Marty speak about and show Herb Ryman’s contributions to key milestones in the history of The Walt Disney Company, including the story of the Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle, and Herb’s world travels, including his amazing paintings of people and places.
